Wales
Wonderful wild Wales has a myriad of landscapes, from the rolling hills, unspoilt mountain roads, and cool forests of mid Wales to the golden sandy beaches of the Pembrokeshire Coast; from the outstanding natural beauty of the windswept Gower Peninsula to the vast meadows, gently rolling hills and wooded valleys of the North East, dotted with beautiful old market towns and castles; from quaint victorian seaside resorts and spectacular views such as Worm's Head and Three Cliffs Bay to the landscape of North Wales dominated by the ruggedly impressive Snowdonia mountain range. Here, you will find some of the most beautiful rail trips in the world – the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway up to Devil's Bridge, and the Festiniog Railway climbing through forests, lakes, and waterfalls to the idyllic harbour town of Porthmadog, or to the fairytale Italianate village of Portmeirion. There's plenty of other towns to visit, too: Swansea, with its award-winning Maritime Quarter; lively Cardiff; Aberystwyth, with its quaint, old-fashioned funicular railway and pier; or alternatively the seaside towns of Llandudno and Llanberis, 13th century Tenby steeped in history, or the walled, medieval port of Conway.
In Wales there's something for everyone.
